Top trending baby shower themes

Baby is not far away, which means it’s time to start planning the baby shower event! From native Australian flora to honey bee inspired celebrations, these gender neutral baby shower themes will help you create an unforgettable event.

It’s time to celebrate that a baby is on it’s way with all of your friends, family and loved ones! A baby shower marks the first official celebration for the baby-to-be. You and your friends are going to be in the same room at long last after this unstable time of Covid 19; lockdowns, postponing and cancelling special events and the ability to plan for the future. It’s about time to go all out and create a themed baby shower event of your dreams!

Structure is key in organising any event. While a baby shower theme certainly isn’t mandatory, having a theme does make planning so much easier. There are a lot of theme ideas you can go with, so picking one can be tough. We have selected some of the top trending baby shower themes to give you a helping hand and inspiration for your event. All the themes we have selected lend themselves perfectly to a unisex baby shower.

Before we go any further, it’s important for us to touch on activities at the baby shower. We aren't talking about those tacky, cheesy games, where people eat chocolate off a nappy, we are talking about classy and creative activities to bring your guests together and keep them entertained at your event. Visit our shop page for baby shower prediction cards and trivia booklets available now.

Native Australian

Think green, think eucalyptus leaves and think backyard baby shower. This event outside in the fresh air, is a safer option in these Covid 19 times. Greet your guests in your backyard or under a tree at a nearby park and take advantage of the afternoon sun. The smell of the barbeque, popping of champagne bottles, picnic rugs and pillows on the lawn, sounding pretty great! This theme screams no stress.

Cut some native Australian wattle, bottlebrush flowers or simply some fresh eucalyptus and place in vases for the decor is easy to do and cost effective. Set up a share table with a simple linen tablecloth, sprinkle some eucalyptus leaves in between cheese boards, healthy dips and vegetable sticks. Fire up the barbeque and cook some vegetable patties, chicken skewers and sausages. Don’t forget an esky or a cute tin bucket of ice to keep the drinks cool. Settle down on the picnic rug with your pals and get started on your baby shower activities.

Animal safari

This animal inspired theme is a broad one, which allows you to play with fun animal motifs and a mix of colours and textures. Anything goes with the safari theme, use tropical fruits, lush green foliage, gold foil and animal prints. The safari theme also works as a backyard baby shower, and is a great event to have the girls and their partners at.

Decorate the table with green tropical leaves (monstera and banana leaves work a treat), tropical fruits and disperse your food throughout. We have a slight obsession with Sugar Rush by Steph’s creations, making cute safari animals as cookies! Use tropical fruits as hero ingredients in cocktails. The cocktail mixes by Mr Consistent are super simple, with little to no prep. The spicy mango margarita cocktail would be the perfect addition to fit in with this themed baby shower event. Take a trip down memory lane and dig out your copy of The Australian Women’s Weekly Children’s Birthday Cakes cookbook and give the ‘Leonard the lion’ cake a go. Get your friends with children to bring along their soft animal toys to add to the event's decor. Play a guessing game of baby-to-be using the Good Times Supplies safari prediction cards.

Mama to bee

This honey bee theme has had an increase in popularity for good reason! With it’s sweet bees, yellow, black and white colour theme and daisy flowers, there is lots to work with when decorating and setting up your bee themed event. Use wording like ‘mama to bee’, ‘sweet as can bee’, ‘oh babee’, ‘what will baby bee?’ for any invitations or signage for your event. This theme works perfectly for a spring or summer time baby shower, allowing you to have it outdoors in your backyard or at a local park.

A honey flavoured cake and other food items fits right in with this theme. Decorate the trees and tables with recycled bottles filled with white and yellow flowers. Get your arts and crafts on and make your own paper decorations for your event. We have a DIY daisy flower and pleated medallion paper garland tutorial on this that you can follow. Choose yellow, white and black paper for your garland for it to fit in with this sweet theme. Predict when baby will arrive and other details with our Sweet as can Bee baby shower prediction cards.

Baby in bloom

Mama to be deserves a day of girly pampering with her best mates, family and sweet smelling flowers around. If you’re after more of a feminime theme, or know it’s a little baby girl onboard, then the floral baby shower is for you. This theme is very elegant and can work with high tea style finger food served on tiered platters. If the sun is shining and you have the outdoor space, hold a backyard garden party style event, however an indoor event can still be chic!

Create a modern and dainty floral theme by decorating the space with seasonal (or mama to be’s favourite) blooms. Keep the floral theme going by tying flowers with kraft string and hanging them as a garland against a wall; this looks visually beautiful and gives a great backdrop for photo opportunities with friends and family during the day. Get creative and make your own pressed flowers ahead of time. Use them to decorate the table, cake, cocktails and mocktails.

Twinkle twinkle little star

Navy, light blue, ivory and touches of metallic silver and gold make an impressive colour palette to create a celestial lunar themed baby shower celebration. A nice choice for a sophisticated evening event with your family and friends to come together and welcome the pending arrival of baby. It’s a great gender neutral theme that can work in conjunction with a gender reveal at the event. Use signage with the phrase ‘Twinkle twinkle little star, how we wonder what you are’ on it for the gender reveal.

Decorations are important to nail this theme. Embellish the space with light blue balloons, metallic stars and crest garlands. Hallmark has an easy to follow DIY star wall hanging that you can create for the event. Serve celestial themed food; tea sandwiches cut into moon shapes, decorated with star and moon motifs on wooden toothpicks. Create a starry backdrop for photos by draping twinkle, fairy lights all around the room. Create a dreamy event by using silver and gold glitter to decorate the tables.
