Decorating for a baby shower, or looking to accessorise a baby's nursery? This sweet, simple, easy to make, paper garland is perfect for this. A homemade garland is inexpensive and a creative way to garnish a spring or summer time event. What you’ll need;

IMG_9967.jpg
  • White paper or kraft paper - cut into 12cm squares (2 squares per daisy)

  • Yellow paper - cut into 29cm by 3cm rectangle (1 rectangle per daisy)

  • Patterned paper - cut into 11cm squares (4 squares per pleated medallion)

  • String

  • Small wooden pegs

  • Glue

  • Scissors

  • Pencil

  • Tape / wall hooks (if desired)

  • Ruler

Tips;

  • Lay out all of your paper before you start cutting, to make sure you are happy with the overall colour theme for the paper garland

  • If you are planning to hang up your garland across the middle of the room, it’s best to use double sided patterned paper for the paper wheel. If you don’t have any patterned paper, upcycling a newspaper or an old magazine is an environmental option.

Daisy Flower Steps;

Step 1. Using the white or kraft paper square, fold your paper into a triangle. Repeat this fold two more times until you have a small triangle.

Step 2. Draw a petal shape onto the folded triangle, making sure the base of the petal is at the middle point.

Step 3. Cut around the petal and open the flower up.

Step 4. Fold down the middle of each petal, to give the flower a three dimensional aspect.

Step 5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 to create the other petal layer for the daisy flower.

Step 6. Glue the two flower petal layers together.

Step 7. Fold the yellow paper rectangle into half, creating a long, narrow strip of paper

Step 8. Fold the yellow strip into half lengthways.

Step 9. Make cuts every 3mm, making sure not to cut all the way through to the folded edge.

Step 10. Open up the last fold and glue all the way along the folded edge of the yellow strip.

Step 11. Roll the paper up to create a circular shape. Hold tight until the glue has had a chance to dry.

Step 12. Carefully fold out the disc floret pieces.

Step 13. Glue the yellow disc floret onto the petals.

Pleated Medallion Steps;

Step 1. Using a ruler and a pencil, mark out a line at 1.5cm and 3cm from the base of the square on the non patterned side (if you are using one sided patterned paper). Draw a line across the square to identify this.

Step 2. Flip the paper over, so the patterned side is facing up, begin folding or pleating the paper in an accordion style. The height of each pleat should be 1.5cm.

Step 3. Repeat steps 1 and 2 to create the other three pieces of the pleated medallion.

Step 4. Glue the accordion.

Step 5. Fold the accordion in half.

Step 6. Pinch the paper medallion tight to ensure it’s glued in place.
